My Product Was Plagiarized — What to Do Now?

Protecting Your Infoproduct Against Unauthorized Copies and Plagiarism

Selling a digital product (infoproduct) online gives you the advantage of instant distribution and scalability. But that ease of distribution also carries the risk of unauthorized copying and redistribution. That means that, even if you create a high-quality product and invest in marketing, you must take care to protect it legally to avoid revenue loss from piracy or plagiarism.

Here are ways to protect your infoproduct:

  • Trademark registration of your product’s name: Register a brand name via the national intellectual property office (e.g. INPI in Brazil). This gives you exclusive rights to the name of your product across the country and helps prevent unauthorized use of your brand name by others.

  • Copyright / Intellectual-works registration: For content like courses, e-books, videos, etc., you can register with a copyright office or national library (e.g. Biblioteca Nacional in Brazil). Though not mandatory, this creates a public record attesting you are the author/owner of the material — a strong proof of ownership.

  • Certificates & conclusion credentials registration: If your product issues course-completion certificates, these can also be registered (for example via a public registry), which helps prevent unauthorized reproduction or falsified certificates by third parties.

  • Proper contracts / terms of use with students or buyers: Having a clear contract or agreement that buyers accept when purchasing helps formalize the relationship and sets expectations: who owns the content, what uses are allowed, prohibitions against redistribution, and consequences for misuse.

Protecting your product legally lowers the chance of having copies or resales without your permission. But if — even with protections — you discover someone is plagiarizing or reselling your product without permission, the platform offers a formal way to report it.

What to Do if Your Product Was Plagiarized

If you believe someone has plagiarized or is selling unauthorized copies of your product on the platform, you must report it:

  1. Gather all necessary evidence to prove authorship and plagiarism. This includes: your original product’s files, publication history, sales history (showing that you are the creator), and any registrations (trademark, copyright, certificate). Also capture proof of the copied material: screenshots or archived pages showing the unauthorized copy, checkout links, sales pages, or course content.

  2. Fill out the plagiarism-report form provided by Kirvano (the “Denúncia de Plágio” form). Provide all requested data: your name and contact, product name, link to original checkout/sales page, evidence of ownership, link / checkout / URL / name of the alleged plagiarized product, and evidence of content duplication.

  3. Submit the report. The Kirvano legal/compliance team will analyze the claim. If approved, they will take necessary actions to remove the plagiarized product; block the infringing seller; and prevent further unauthorized sales.

Why Plagiarism Protection Is Important

  • Digital products are easier to copy and distribute without authorization.

  • Unauthorized copies reduce your potential sales, harming your business.

  • Legal protection (trademark, copyright, certificates) helps you defend your rights and claim ownership in disputes.

  • Having a clear contract or terms with buyers helps deter misuse and supports enforcement.

Even with monitoring and good content, if you don’t act quickly when detecting plagiarism, the damage can spread — so it’s important to act and report as soon as you find unauthorized copies.
